April 7, 2014

Understanding the Unique Sensory Profiles of the Child and Caregiver to Support Co-Regulation in the Flow of Interaction

This workshop for mental health and developmental intervention specialists offers foundational sensory integration knowledge that will help providers support childrens’ abilities to regulate their arousal, attention, affect, social interactions, and behavior. Lecture, video, and discussion will be used to help providers learn to identify behavioral signs of sensory processing challenges, describe how a child’s sensory processing and motor abilities contribute to their functional emotional development, and build skills to support clients’ regulation and social interactions.

Participants will:

  • Recognize child behaviors that are signs of sensory processing challenges.
  • Understand how individual differences in the ways that children and caregivers process sensory information impacts their behavior and relationships.
  • Identify ways in sensory processing challenges impact learning.
  • Identify ways to integrate an understanding sensory processing into creating “goodness of fit” in the environment.
